Coats’ Disease Awareness Day
What is Coats' Disease Awareness Day?
Coats' Disease Awareness Day takes place each year on August 17 to shine a light on this rare disease. It is a day for all Coats' patients, parents, families, friends, and physicians to spread the word about this disease, help raise awareness, and fund research to find a cure.
Why is this day important?
There is no cure for Coats' Disease yet and many cases go undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Raising awareness may lead to an earlier diagnosis and prompt treatment so that a child's vision may be saved. Funding research is critical to identifying improved treatments and to finding a cure for Coats' Disease.
How can you help?
Host a Connecting for a Cure Event. Hosting a Connecting for a Cure event is a great way for members of the Coats’ Community to create their own awareness and fundraising events! Hosting a picnic, having a "glow party," or creating an event like Notes’ for Coats’ helps spread awareness of Coats’ Disease and raise funds to enable us to continue building patient resources and supporting research! Check out this video on how to host your own event.
Make a Donation. We depend on the support of our Coats' community to help us fund important research and provide resources to Coats' patients and families. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference!

Remember, each state is different. Proclamation requests are reviewed and processed at varying times and speeds. The first place to begin your state’s process is to contact your State Representative to identify which department handles Proclamation requests.
On application, be sure to select “Organization” and not “Individual” under Proclamation Information section
We can provide copy/paste content for the application. To request content, please email Deborah Marron to get started or for a template copy. If the application is online, we can fill it out for you and use your information as the requestor from your state.
